A RESET, STATED PLAINLY Our rankings launched on illustrative placeholder data. As of this issue they do not. The board is now 36 real, currently-active projects, each verified to exist and scored on the five MoatRank dimensions against cited 2026 evidence — 11 Certified, 18 Rising, 7 Watchlist. Model Context Protocol leads at 92, the Agentic AI Foundation at 88, LangGraph at 84. Scores remain editorial estimates with confidence attached, not measurements; where a project is two weeks old, its Adoption score says so. We would rather be honestly uncertain than precisely wrong. COMMERCE ARRIVES On June 10, Mastercard launched Agent Pay for Machines — an open protocol for agent-to-merchant and agent-to-agent payments that credentials agents on-chain (Polygon, Solana, Base) and settles across cards, ACH, and stablecoins, with 31 named launch partners including Coinbase, Adyen, Stripe, and Cloudflare. It is fourteen days old, so it enters Rising on potential and distribution, not proven volume. But Mastercard's network is the strongest distribution moat any agent-payment protocol has carried, and the category now has a credible incumbent alongside the open-protocol challengers. BENCHMARKING CATCHES UP TO AGENTS On June 4, Arena.ai — the leaderboard formerly known as LMSYS Chatbot Arena — launched Agent Arena, replacing simple preference votes with causal tracing: randomized component selections that form a controlled trial of agent task performance. In its first weeks it logged six-figure agent-task counts. Measuring agents is harder than measuring chat models, and the field finally has a methodology built for it. THE BOARD The shape of the moat is now clear. The top is owned not by the flashiest products but by the layer that went neutral: protocols and the foundations that steward them. Capital is flowing into payments and identity, but adoption there is still mostly promise. We will keep scoring the gap between the two — honestly, monthly — because that gap is where the real signal lives.
